| SNOW!! |

Over break, it snowed. A lot. And I played in it, a lot. With a cute pup and a cute boy :)
( Snowboy :) )
( Snowpuppy )
( Snowins?!! )
My pup Nellie is deathly afraid of water, seemingly in any form. It's hilarious to see her swim... she splashes water up in her own face with her front two paws, and then bites at the water. She bites at the water from the hose. She bites and barks at the vacuum, mop, broom, etc :) And she bites at snowballs too. It's hilarious... what a nutty pup.

| Philadelphia! University of Pennsylvania |
[07 Oct 2004|04:03pm] |
So I might just have found my dream school.
Today, I toured the University of Pennsylvania and let me tell you, it is amazing. I love the campus. It's like a castle in the middle of a city. I love the people. They are all top 10, they are from all over, they all seem so interesting. I love the atmosphere. It feels like a rich IU, nothing like a pretentious stuck-up Ivy.
( I think I'm in LOVE )

The painting in the previous post was finished a couple of weeks ago, and I say it is mighty fine. It is as of yet unnamed, so get creative kids! I'll bring it home soon and show the finished product.
Now, I've started a project quite literally bigger than I can probably chew... I'm doing a 4ft x 8ft "mural" for an English class project, and it is looking mighty fine :) My dad, my brother, and my brother's friend ALL made the frame for me, and just because I'm such a nice person, I let them sharpie their names on the back. Actually I think it's cute. And they did a hecka good job on the frame. Today I stretched the canvas during art class, and that was a project and a half. It took both me and my dad the entire hour to do it. Then after school I primed it, and it looks super. I'm going to go back and do another coat here in a little bit. I'm. So. Excited.
What it's going to end up as, I'm hoping, is a collage full of symbols from the American Revolution, such as the Liberty Bell, an American flag with the circle of stars, a British flag, the tree the Constitution was written under, the 13 colonies outlined, John Hancock's signature, artillery and crap from the war, and other things. Have any ideas? Send them my way!
It's for an English class project (and I'm putting in about 400x the amount of effort I need to, but here's to my grade going up)... and I'm going to also turn it in as my 9 weeks project in art I'm thinking. Depends on how crappy it turns out.
Other art projects I'm keeping myself busy with are an 8x10 lino cut of my face, a cover to enter in the Yearbook Cover contesty thinggy, a landscape painting as a part of my "actual" painting class, and a lovely little painting for Tab's birthday but that's New Year's Eve so I've got awhile. Plus I've got a big website to design for a conference I'm going to in Philly in two weeks. Ah, such is the life. The creativity pours from me.
Kidlings, I've got ideas for this yearbook cover, but if you've got good ones, I'd love for you to share! The theme is "And so the story goes..." and the cover must tie in the theme. Don't give me things like "an open book!" or something, because EVERYBODY is doing that. And nobody can draw books. The end.
There you go. Leave comments. The end! Ciao!

| Arsty pic of teh century: |
[09 May 2004|11:34pm] |

So Lee and I spent Friday night on Mass Ave, right? Gallery walks and whatnot. Alot of the galleries and businesses along there have decorated tires/made tires into works of art in honor of the Indianapolis 500. This is right outside a hairdresser, which explains the crazy muti-colored hair on the tire. They dressed the tire up girl-like, and took people's pictures with their faces inside the tire. Somehow ours came out so awesome and camera-shaky and I love it so much.
Like Lee said, it's so artsy it hurts, but it's awesome. We didn't even have to shake it like a Polaroid picture.
Keep your eyes peeled for some big entries about the upcoming 9 weeks project...

really crappy lighting... picture of my 9 weeks project in progress... click.
john took the source picture and i'm turning it into my own interpretation... i'm hatching it with pen and ink. i spilled the ink today. all over the place, including my nice favorite pink american eagle hoodie. i got that sucker spray-n-washed and put in the washer as fast as i possibly could. let's just hope that ink comes out...
our next upcoming project in art class is a self-collage. kind of like a self-portrait, but the point is to draw/paint/glue/whatever things that are relevant to your life. so i'm going to take a lot of ani lyrics, i'm thinking. i'm thinking a lake sunset, and every ray of light from the sun has an ani lyric written on it... and all the rays are curlicues and swirly and open to interpretation. i'm thinking abstractions of my camera, me swimming, fleur de lis, shoes, a cross... anything that has significance in my life? i don't know. random brainstorming sessions.
also... my minolta got fixed, my film camera. i've never used the thing, since it was broken, but now that it's fixed i'm excited and ready to play. dad's scared that it's going to be a lot of money and sure, it will, but i like it. i feel so ........ photographer-y. i love it. and i will call you... mini-me :)
i'll scan and post those pics when i get them back.... :)

| first snow... |
[30 Jan 2004|10:36pm] |
sundown. the light is beautiful. i figured that i would finally get outside and stretch that old camera out a bit. this is the scene that greeted me. beautiful.
a big tree with snow on it! what a novel concept!
the ice encased everything around me. everything from weeds, to the tree branches, to the evergreens. a pine cone!!
a snow-covered evergreen and the sunset through it's branches... and more sunset.
after playing around in my own front yard for a while, i decided to make the trek across the corn field to the stream... it's only about a quarter-mile across, so i though, bah, i can make it :) it proved worth it.
the stream is actually a drainage ditch but for these purposes we'll pretend it's a nice pretty woodland stream... i so wanted to walk out on it, because the sticks that i threw onto the ice didn't break it... but i think 1/10th of a pound and 140 pounds is a big difference...:)
yay for the sunset!
after i got bored with the stream, i came across some jewels... i assume it to be sumac... but you know how rusty i get in the winter:)
this grapevine piqued my interest as well...
these, however, were my most favorite of the entire batch of pictures i took all day. look closely at the barb in the barbed wire... what do you notice? i assume it to be a bit of rabbit fur... interesting!
i started the trek back, because the sun decided it was done for the day...:)
i couldn't resist, however, one more picture... i love the mood it portrays....
the next morning, i noticed that the sun was up at the same time i was, for the first time in a long while! so i opened my window blinds wide... and these stared me right in the face!!
